Mary Jane-style barefoot shoes review

Today, I’m sharing a Xero Shoes review of the Cassie shoe. It’s a cute, Mary Jane-style barefoot shoe for women that looks great with a skirt or jeans. If you don’t know much about Xero Shoes, they make functional barefoot shoes and sandals designed for natural movement.

All their shoes and sandals are minimalist-style footwear that allows you to feel the ground with your feet. By having zero drop between the heel and the rest of the foot, as well as a thin sole, they allow your feet to move and function as feet should!

Xero Shoes Cassie review

The Cassie is a cute and elegant closed-toe style sandal. It’s a casual hemp canvas shoe with a 5.5mm high-performance FeelTrue rubber sole. So, it’s super thin, but you can also wear the 3mm insole that comes with the shoe for extra comfort.

Xero Shoes designed the Cassie shoe as an alternative to the classic Mary Jane style shoe for women. It looks very similar and was created in response to people asking for a shoe that would be acceptable for the office.

Although it was designed for women, men with a narrower foot may also like the style.

The difference between the Cassie casual shoe and the classic Mary Jane is that the Xero Shoes version is designed (like all Xero Shoes) to allow your feet to bend, flex, and feel the ground like nature intended.

The shoe has a Huarache-inspired design with a functional heel/instep strap that also looks fantastic. Although you probably won’t want to run an ultra marathon in the Cassie’s, you can certainly have plenty of active fun in this casual hemp canvas comfort shoe.

My experience wearing the Cassie

I wore the Cassie shoe at this early stage of my postnatal journey back into fitness and movement, after the birth of my second child. By wearing them with the provided inner sole, they gave me the extra comfort that I needed during that time.

I wore them pretty much everywhere I went in the early postnatal months, so on walks down to the shop, and even some mini-hikes (the type I would take my then five-year-old on).

The Cassie, like all Xero Shoes, has a zero-drop” non-elevated heel, which helps me maintain proper posture. You can also wear this style with jeans or a skirt, so they’re lovely and versatile.

Probably one of the most useful things for me as a new mom was that I could do these up with one hand. So when I was holding a big baby bag and a baby in one hand and trying to sort out my five-year-old, it was quite useful to be able to put these on quickly and easily.

Xero Shoes review – why barefoot shoes are so awesome

All Xero Shoes have zero drop between the heel and the rest of the shoe, allowing for natural posture and movement. Flexible soles ensure your feet can bend properly and your muscles work as they should!

The shoes’ soles are super thin, ensuring a low-to-the-ground design. Why is this important? Well, your feet have an amazing number of sensory receptors. These receptors provide feedback to your body to tell it how to move properly.

When your foot is three inches from the ground, you can’t get the necessary feedback. Barefoot shoes’ low-to-the-ground design helps you move and balance better so you can enjoy doing what you love.
