In a viral Instagram post, a man from Massachusetts shared the heartwarming way his cat welcomes him every time he returns home, and internet users can’t get enough of it.
The video, shared on Wednesday under the username @felinesupnorth, shows the tabby cat standing on his hind legs behind the front door, pawing at the glass as he recognizes his dad coming up the driveway.
“Rich in life because this is my cat’s reaction when I come home,” the caption says. “He loves me (and the snow)!”
The poster, 25-year-old Nando Lara, told Newsweek that Timmy, his 2-year-old cat is always elated to see him come back home.
“He’s truly my soul cat and follows me everywhere I go. He’s always pawing at the doors or windows to get to me!” he said.
Pet MD explains that cats can form deep bonds with their humans, but they often express love in subtle ways that differ from dogs.
It’s a common misconception that cats are not particularly affectionate creatures. However, unlike dogs, who show affection openly, cats use body language, behaviors, and sounds to demonstrate trust and attachment, so it helps to learn their cues.
Common signs a cat loves their owner include slow blinking at you, nuzzling or head-butting, grooming you or letting you brush them, kneading, and showing their vulnerable belly. Cats only lie on their backs and show their bellies when they are in their most relaxed state.
They may also meow gently, purr when near you, greet you when you come home, follow you around, and hold their tail upright. Bringing you “gifts” like toys or prey, and choosing to sleep on or beside you, are also indicators of affection.
Each cat expresses love differently, so understanding their individual behaviors and respecting their boundaries builds a stronger, more trusting bond.
You can strengthen your bond with your cat by spending more quality time together, playing with toys with them and giving them occasional treats.
Lara’s video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 268,000 views and 33,200 likes on the platform.
